BEVERLY, Mass. – Freshman Edwin Demoya (Salem, Mass.) scored 25 seconds into the overtime to give the Endicott men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon. With the win the Gulls improve to 5-5 (2-1), while the Leopards slip to 1-8 (1-2).
The first half was even as both teams recorded eight shots during the frame. At 26:23 Endicott had a perfect opportunity to get a tally on the board when junior Abdulla Al Khalifa (Riffa, Bahrain) took a corner kick and sent it across cage where sophomore Kyle Bisceglia was able to get a header on it but it bounced off the cross bar and went out of bounds.
While the remainder of the half was relatively quiet for both teams, Endicott was awarded four corner kicks but could not convert, leaving it a scoreless contest at the break.
Sophomore goalkeeper Austin Peluso (Farmington, Conn.) came up big in the frame making four saves to keep the Leopards off the board to enter halftime.
Endicott held a 12-4 shot advantage in the second half, with three of those shots going on net. However, freshman Chase Richard (Smithfield, R.I.) made three stops in the second half to keep it a scoreless contest.
Playing in its seventh overtime contest of the season, the Gulls wasted little time getting the "golden goal" as Sebastian Rozo blasted a pass to Demoya who dribbled a bit up the left side, ahead of the Leopard defenders. His shot would find the upper left corner of the net to give the hosts the victory.
Peluso made five saves for the Gulls, while Richard made four for the Leopards. Endicott held a 21-12 shot advantage and a 7-2 corner kick edge.
The Gulls host UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., while the Leopards host Lesley on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
