Men's Soccer Shuts Out Curry

BOSTON, Mass. – Three different players scored goals and sophomore keeper Kevin Pepin (Fairhaven, Mass.) made 11 stops in his first collegiate start as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team snapped a four-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over Curry in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played on Sweeney Field.

With the win the Leopards improve to 2-9-0 overall and even their record at 2-2-0 in CCC play. Wentworth surpassed last year's win total with the win. Curry suffered its first loss in league play (2-1-1) and falls to 5-4-2 overall.

Wentworth got the only goal it would need at 4:57 when freshman Alec Watkinson (Merrimack, N.H.) scored from senior Mike Sousa (Fall River, Mass.). Junior Adam Rhodes (Litchfield, Conn.) had taken a corner kick and Sousa eventually possessed a loose ball and fed Watkinson, who buried a shot to the upper middle.

The Colonels nearly had a chance to tie the game at 14:55 when Curry was awarded a penalty kick. Junior Nick Gilman's (Longmeadow, Mass.) attempt was stopped by a diving Pepin going to his left. The Leopards were awarded a penalty kick at 34:39 and sophomore Sam Martins (Dartmouth, Mass.) made the most of the opportunity, putting a shot home inside the left post.

Just 3:44 into the second half Wentworth rounded out the scoring when Rhodes made a long run down the right side and beat Curry senior Nick Barber (Pittsfield, Mass.)

Barber made eight saves for the Colonels who held a 23-17 shot advantage and a 9-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Wentworth hosts WPI Wednesday night. That same night Curry hosts Western Connecticut.
