Salve Regina Shuts Out Men's Soccer

NEWPORT, R.I. – The Salve Regina University men's soccer team broke open a 1-0 game with a three-goal second half and sophomore Daniel Stern (Kings Park, N.Y.) made four saves as the Seahawks blanked Wentworth Institute of Technology, 4-0, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.

With the win, the Seahawks improve to 8-7-2 overall and 4-3-1 in CCC play while the Leopards fall to 2-14-0 (2-6-0).

After a scoreless first 38:21 Salve Regina scored the only goal it would need when junior Zachary Kraft (Tenafly, N.J.) fed junior Issa Demirgioglu (Smithfield, R.I.) who found the back of the net. The Seahawks held an 8-5 shot advantage through the first 45:00.

The Seahawks added to their lead just 2:07 into the second half when junior Devin L'Heureux (Litchfield, N.H.) scored from classmate Alec Shuman (Pompton Plains, N.J.).

Junior Zak Bissell (Allendale, N.J.) scored the next two goals for the hosts as he had an unassisted tally at 70:50 and scored on a penalty kick exactly three minutes later.

Sophomore Kevin Pepin (Fairhaven, Mass.) made eight saves for the Leopards, who were outshot by a 20-10 margin. The Seahawks held a 6-3 edge on corner kicks for the contest.

Wentworth concludes its regular season with a home game against the University of New England on Tuesday night, while Salve Regina ends its regular season Wednesday night at Eastern Nazarene.
