Men's Soccer Rallies to Tie MIT

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Semuel Dacaj's (Norwood, Mass.) goal midway through the second half evened the score at 2-all as The Wentworth Institute of Technology and MIT men's soccer teams played to a draw in a non-conference match on Sweeney Field.

Wentworth has now started the season with three straight ties and is 0-0-3 on the season while MIT had its second consecutive draw to stand at 1-0-2.

The Engineers scored on their second shot of the game as freshman Jonathan Wilson (West Chester, Pa.) took a free kick from 20 yards out on the right side and found the upper left corner of the net.

MIT held the one-goal lead until there were eight seconds remaining in the half, when after a caution was issued to a Leopard player, Wilson took the free kick and sent it into the box. Senior Gordon Glober (Jacksonville, Fla.) got a foot on it and buried the shot to the right side.

Eight minutes and three second into the second stanza, the hosts got on the board as freshman Michael Zendan (Charlotte, N.C.) sent a long throw towards the box. Classmate Joe Kalil (Franklin, Mass.) one-timed the shot, which beat Engineer junior Jake Amereno (Commack, N.Y.).

In the 71st minute, MIT had three chances to increase their lead as a pair of shots were saved by Leopard junior Kevin Pepin (Fairhaven, Mass.) and the third attempt sailed over the crossbar.

Decaj evened the game when he took advantage of a misplay by an Engineer defender just outside of the box and buried a shot that beat Amereno to the right.

The first overtime saw the Leopards outshoot the Engineers by a 2-1 margin, however none of the three attempts were on net. Both teams had two shots in the second overtime, including when an MIT shot sailed just wide of the net as time wound down, however the game would end in a draw.

Pepin had seven saves while Amereno had four. MIT outshot the Leopards by a 22-15 margin and had five of the game's six corner kicks.

Both teams are in action on Wednesday as Wentworth hosts Mass. Maritime at 7:00 and MIT is at Salve Regina.
