Men's Soccer Cracks Win Column

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Max Hilchuk (Wethersfield, Conn.) recorded a hat trick and classmate Sam Martins (Dartmouth, Mass.) assisted on three goals as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season with a 5-0 win over Maine-Farmington.

With the win the Leopards improve to 1-2-3 while the Beavers fall to 0-2-1.

Wentworth started the scoring early, as Martins sent a pass across the box to senior Adam Rhodes (Litchfield, Conn.) for a one-timer goal 1:54 into the start of the match. At 31:51, Hilchuk scored the first of his three goals by netting a rebound from the crossbar off a senior Erik Shaw (Hooksett, N.H.) shot. Just under 10 minutes later, Hilchuk netted his second of the game as he fired a low shot off a Martins corner kick inside the left post.

Over the first 45 minutes the Leopards held the Beavers without a shot and had 19 of their own, with 10 going on net.

Shaw tallied his first of the season with a shot to the left off a Martins cross at 64:47. Four minutes later, Hilchuk completed the hat-trick with header set up by junior midfielder Alberto Benhamu (Caracas, Venezuela).

Junior goalkeeper Kevin Pepin (Fairhaven, Mass.) recorded three saves in the shutout. Sophomore Ronie Morales (Houston, Texas) made nine saves in 78:58 while freshman Matt Wilson (Hamden, Conn.) had two stops in 11:02. Wentworth outshot UMF by a 32-5 margin and had a 14-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Leopards travel to Curry on Friday night to face the Colonels in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest while the Beavers are at Colby on Wednesday.
