Men's Soccer Doubled Up at UMass Boston

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Pedro Dasilva (Fogo, Cape Verde) tallied all four of his team's goals as the University of Massachusetts Boston men's soccer team picked up its fourth straight win with a 4-2 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in the first meeting between the two schools since the 1988 season.

With the win the Beacons improve to 5-3-0 while the Leopards see their two-game win streak come to an end, slipping to 2-3-3 on the season.

Dasilva gave the hosts a 1-0 lead at 15:14 as he dribbled through two Wentworth defenders and buried a shot inside the near post. With 10:47 left in the half, the Leopards evened the score when sophomore Alec Watkinson (Merrimack, N.H.) fed a through ball inside the box where freshman Joe Kalil (Franklin, Mass.) found the back of the net for the first of his two goals on the day.

The Beacons took a 2-1 lead less than four minutes later when DaSilva put home the rebound of a Joshua Khang (Brockton, Mass.) shot.

In the 52nd minute, Dasilva recorded the hat trick and made it a 3-1 game when a foul occurred in the box and he stepped up and converted a penalty kick.

Wentworth pulled within a goal at 76:07 as freshman Michael Zendan (Charlotte, N.C.) took a throw in which Kalil headed inside the near post. With 9:34 remaining, Dasilva went in alone and pushed a shot inside the far post.

Alfonso Rosales (Revere, Mass.) made nine saves for UMass Boston, while junior Kevin Pepin (Fairhaven, Mass.) made three saves. The Leopards held a 15-13 advantage in shots and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

Wentworth hosts Salve Regina on Saturday. That same day, the Beacons host UMass Dartmouth.
