Three Men's Soccer Players Named All-CCC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Student-athletes from all 10 member institutions in the Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the 2014 All-CCC Men's Soccer Team. In addition to the all-conference team, five major individual award winners and the team sportsmanship award winner were also selected.
 
Gordon College sophomore Caleb Cole was named CCC Offensive Player of the Year, while University of New England senior Aidan McParland was honored with the CCC Defensive Player of the. Nichols College freshman Rielee Mohsin was selected as CCC Rookie of the Year. Salve Regina University senior Jacob Weinshank was named CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Nichols' Chris Traina earned CCC Coach of the Year.  Eastern Nazarene College was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Wentworth Institute of Technology had three members of its men's soccer program earn Honorable Mention All-CCC in senior forward Adam Rhodes (Litchfield, Conn.), freshman midfielder Joe Kalil (Franklin, Mass.), and junior back Sam Martins (Dartmouth, Mass.).

Voting for the All-CCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among CCC men's soccer coaches.

A four-year letterwinner and two-year start for the Leopards, Rhodes started 16 of the 17 games in which he appeared this season and led the team with six goals while tying for the team lead with 12 points. During the course of the season he had a three-game scoring streak, which included the game-winning tally in Wentworth's 5-0 win over Maine-Farmington. Rhodes started 34 of the 55 career contests in which he played, scoring eight goals and assisting on three others for 19 career points.

Kalil had an impressive rookie season as he started 15 of the 16 games in which he played, scoring five goals for 10 points. His five goals tied him for second on the team and his 10 points were fourth on the squad. Kalil's overtime goal against Salve Regina gave Wentworth a 2-1 win and he also tallied a pair of goals in a 4-2 loss at UMass Boston.

Martins earns his second straight honorable mention all-conference selection after a stellar season as a two-way player. A solid defender throughout the season, he led the team with seven assists – many off of free kicks – and was second in points with 11. He notched the game-winning goal – on a penalty kick – in a 3-1 win over Curry and had three assists in a 5-0 win over Maine-Farmington. A captain of this year's team, Martins has started all 35 of the team's games the last two seasons and has four career goals and 10 career assists for 18 points in 40 career games.

Wentworth finished the season with a 4-8-5 overall record and the Leopards narrowly missed a spot in the CCC Tournament with a 2-5-2 record.
