SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Freshman keeper Matthew Sekerak (Winthrop, Maine) of the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for games played through September 6.
Sekerak made an immediate impact for the leopards as he went 3-0 with a .956 save percentage and a 0.33 goals against average. In his collegiate debut he made five saves in a 3-0 win over Lasell and concluded the week with that similar performance in a 3-0 win over Johnson & Wales. Sekerak had a dozen saves in the Leopards 2-1 win over Wheaton, which had entered the game ranked 22nd in the NSCAA Pre-Season Top 25.
Off to its best start (3-0) since 2001, Wentworth is at Mass. Maritime on Wednesday night.
