Sekerak, Miller Take Home ECAC Honors

DANBURY, Conn. – A pair of Wentworth Institute of Technology soccer players took home ECAC honors for games played from September 1-6. On the men's side, freshman Matthew Sekerak (Winthrop, Maine) was named ECAC Division III New England Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week, while on the women's side, junior Morgan Miller (Schenectady, N.Y.) was named the ECAC Division III Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

Sekerak, who was named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Week, made an immediate impact for the leopards as he went 3-0 with a .956 save percentage and a 0.33 goals against average. In his collegiate debut he made five saves in a 3-0 win over Lasell and concluded the week with that similar performance in a 3-0 win over Johnson & Wales. Sekerak had a dozen saves in the Leopards 2-1 win over Wheaton, which had entered the game ranked 22nd in the NSCAA Pre-Season Top 25. Wentworth's 3-0 start is its best since the 2001 campaign.

Miller, who was also the CCC Defensive Player of the Week, had a stellar week on both sides of the pitch as, offensively, she had a goal and an assist in 2-0 win over Clark and assisted on the lone goal in a 1-0 win against William Paterson. On the defensive side, she helped the Leopards post three straight shutouts for the first time since 2005 and helped hold opponents to just eight shots on goal in three games.

Through four games Miller has a goal and two assists for four points.

Wentworth's men's soccer team returns to action tonight at Mass. Maritime, while the women (4-0) are idle until Saturday when they open CCC play against Roger Williams.
