Men's Soccer Opens CCC Play With Tie

MILTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team opened Commonwealth Coast Conference play Saturday morning by rallying to tie Curry, 1-1, at Walter M. Katz Field.

With the win the Leopards stand at 2-2-1 while the Colonels also stand at 2-2-1.

Wentworth controlled play for most of the first half and held an 11-3 shot advantage through 45 minutes of play. However, it would be Curry which would score first as freshman Brandon Rinaldi (Bethlehem, Conn.) put home a cross from junior Roy Butlin (Milton, mass.) to the top corner with 1:33 left in the frame.

The Leopards once again came out on the attack to start the second half and junior Stephen Frazier (Bedford, Mass.) capitalized at the 67:18 mark when he took a feed from sophomore Noah Martins (Dartmouth, Mass.) and beat senior keeper Dan Johnston (Easton, Conn.). Both teams had chances to take the lead in regulation, however the game remained tied at 1-all.

In both overtime sessions, the Black & Gold held a 7-0 shot advantage, however it was the hosts who nearly won the game in the waning second of overtime when Curry had a corner kick with 13 seconds left but could not capitalize.

Sophomore Matthew Sekerak (Winthrop, Maine) made two saves for Wentworth while Johnston made 10 for the Colonels. The Leopards held a 30-10 shot advantage for the contest.
