Callahan Named CCC Defensive Player of the Week

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team did not allow a goal in 200 minutes of action last week and junior defender Kenneth Callahan (Killingworth, Conn.) played a key role in not allowing opponents to score. For his efforts, he was named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Oct. 4-10.

Callahan helped the Leopards to a 1-0-1 week as the Black & Gold extended their unbeaten streak to 10 games (6-0-4). In a 0-0 tie at WPI, he helped hold the Engineers to just eight shots in the game with none of them coming in the final 73:10. His defensive efforts continued in a 1-0 win over Nichols where he helped keep the Bison off the scoreboard after his teammates grabbed the game's only goal 1:12 into the contest.

He has been a large part of a defensive side of the field which has held opponents to just over 13 shots per game and a goals against average of 1.07, including four shutouts. He also has one assist on the season.

Wentworth (8-2-4) travels to Gordon on Saturday afternoon. Both the Leopards and Fighting Scots are tied for first place in CCC play at 4-0-1.
