Basaca, Martins Named NSCAA All-New England

BOSTON, Mass. – The National Collegiate Soccer Coaches Association of America released its 2016 Division III Men's Soccer All-Region teams on Thursday afternoon and Wentworth Institute of Technology had two of its players represented. Junior midfielder Emmett Basaca (San Diego, Calif.) and sophomore forward Noah Martins (Dartmouth, Mass.) were each named to the second team.

Basaca, a Third Team All-New England section as a sophomore, was a key reason why the Leopards had one of the top defenses in the conference and held opponents to 24 goals in 21 games, including posting seven shutouts. In addition to his solid defensive work, he was charged with taking the majority of the team's free kicks and corner kicks, often setting up scoring chances for his teammates. Starting all of the team's 21 games, the two-time (2015, 2016) All-Commonwealth Coast Conference selection also scored three goals and assisted on six others for 12 points. His six assists tied him for the team lead while his 12 points were second for the Leopards. In 59 career games (59 starts), he has 13 points, which has come on three goals and seven assists.

A First Team All-CCC selection, Martins led the Leopards in scoring with 15 goals and 36 points while his six assists tied Basaca for the team lead. Additionally, he was second in the conference in both goals and points and four of his goals were game-winning goals. His 15 goals were also tied for the second-most in a single season in program history while his 36 points placed him fourth on the program's single season scoring list. He had a career-best seven points in a 5-3 win over MIT on Sept. 21. Starting all 42 games in which has played during his career, Martins has 24 points and 12 assists for 60 points. He is fourth in program history in both goals and points and ninth in assists.

Wentworth, which rose a 12-game unbeaten streak (8-0-4) during the season, finished with a 13-4-4 overall record and was second in CCC play at 7-1-1. The Leopards advanced to their first CCC championship game since the 2009 season.
