Late Goal Helps Mass. Maritime Edge Men's Soccer

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Sophomore Adam Crawford's (Kingston, Mass.) goal with just under 18 minutes remaining proved to be the game-winner and lifted Massachusetts Maritime to a 2-1 non-league college men's soccer victory over Wentworth Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The host Buccaneers (1-1) trailed midway through the second half after sophomore Diego Panayotti (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) had given the visiting Leopards (1-2) a 1-0 advantage in the 56th minute on a feed from junior Noah Martins (Dartmouth, Mass.), but freshman Jacob Crawford (Rockland, Mass.) evened matters in the 68th minute after converting a pass from fellow freshman AJ Bubencik (Foxboro, Mass.) for his first collegiate tally.

Adam Crawford provided the heroics less than five minutes later for Mass. Maritime, as he lofted a shot high from 35 yards with the wind at his back for the goal which would eventually give the Buccaneers the win.

Senior Mike Pruchnik (Rochester, Mass.) made a pair of saves over the final 19 minutes of action to earn the win in goal for Mass. Maritime, which also received a pair of stops over the first 71 minutes of play from junior Connor Murphy (Mashpee, Mass.). Junior Joe Schallmo (Norwood, Mass.) made one save in suffering the setback in goal for Wentworth, as the Leopards outshot the Buccaneers by a 15-4 margin overall (5-2 on goal) and took five of the six corner kicks.

This marked the 13th time in 29 series meetings between the two programs where the game was decided by a single goal.
