Men's Soccer Shut Out by MIT

BOSTON, Mass. – A pair of goals from freshman Loukas Carayannopoulos (Westfield, N.J) and six saves from sophomore Jeremy Cowham (Quincy, Mass.) helped the MIT men's soccer team defeat Wentworth Institute of Technology, 2-0, in non-conference action on Sweeney Field.

With the win the Engineers improve to 3-1-2 on the season while the Leopards fall to 4-4-0.

Carayannopoulos gave the visitors the only goal they would need at the 6:05 mark when he took a pass from junior Anthony Badea (Irvine, Calif.) and fired a long, low shot which he tucked inside the right post. Just over 17 and a half minutes later he netted an unassisted tally when his shot from the top of the box found its way to the upper right corner of the net.

Shortly after MIT made it 2-0, Wentworth had a chance to cut the lead in half, however a header from junior Griffin Price (Allendale, N.J.) hit the post and the shot off the rebound sailed wide.

The Leopards had a pair of chances early in the second half, however Cowham kept the hosts off the scoreboard.

Junior Matthew Sekerak (Winthrop, Maine) made six stops for the Black & Gold. MIT had a 17-16 shot advantage while Wentworth had a 2-1 edge on corner kicks.

Wentworth hosts Gordon on Saturday.
