Amherst Spoils Men's Soccer's Home Opener

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman German Giammattei (Pinecrest, Fla.) netted a pair of goals and junior Dane Lind (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) scored once and had three assists as the 10th-ranked Amherst College men's soccer team opened its season with a 7-0 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology.

The Mammoths scored four times in a span of 7:02 with Giammattei recording two goals and an assist and Lind scoring once and adding a helper. Senior Luke Nguyen (Old Lyme, Conn.) scored from Lind at 14:01, which was followed by Giammattei setting up Lind at 16:19. Giammattei scored twice in a span of 48 seconds to make it 4-0 before sophomore Dylan Steele (Swampscott, Mass.) completed the first half scoring with a goal off a senior Fikayo Ajayi (London, United Kingdom) shot.

Lind assisted on Amherst's two second-half tallies as he set up senior Sean Fitzgerald (New York, N.Y.) in the 72nd minute and freshman Nico Kenary (Chevy Chase, Md.) exactly 10 minutes later.

Sophomore Michael Stone (Boca Raton, Fla.) made one save in 61:24 while freshman Bernie White (Austin, Texas) didn't make a stop in 28:36 of action. Junior Philip Chomicki (Dorchester, Mass.) made 11 saves for Wentworth which was outshot by a 32-3 margin.

Wentworth (1-1-1) is at Lesley on Saturday.
