Men's Soccer Edges Emmanuel

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Drew DeCoste (Somerset, Mass.) snapped a scoreless tie and classmate Philip Chomicki (Dorchester, Mass.) turned aside a pair of shots, including one in the final 30 seconds as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team edged Emmanuel, 1-0, in non-conference action Monday night.

The host Saints has a chance in the first minute of play as they took a corner kick, however, were unable to generate a scoring opportunity off of the set piece. Leopard sophomore Nathan Gosselin (Hudson, N.H.) put a shot on net in the sixth minute, which would be Wentworth's best chance until Gosselin again put a shot on target in the 43rd minute.

Early in the second half, junior Griffin Price nearly put the Black & Gold on the board, however, his shot hit the crossbar. Just over five minutes later, DeCoste broke the ice as he was set up by Gosselin and junior Matt White (Northbridge, Mass.). Wentworth continued to apply pressure as, in the 62nd minute, freshman Alex Moore (Salem, Conn.) hit the crossbar and Gosselin put two shots on net in a 41-second span.

The Leopard defense did not allow a shot on goal to get through until a header in the 75th minute, which was picked off by Chomicki. As time was winding down, Emmanuel took a shot which Chomicki saved. The Saints had possession after a misclear, however, the ball was stolen and dribbled out as time expired.

Chomicki recorded his second shutout of the season and improved to 3-2-1 in the win. Junior Jonathan Ferrarini (Hanover, Mass.) suffered the loss (3-3-1), making seven saves. Wentworth had a 14-7 shot advantage, while the Saints had the edge on corner kicks, 6-4.

Wentworth (4-2-1) is at MIT on Wednesday night.
