The Price is Right in Men's Soccer's Crucial Win at Endicott

BEVERLY, Mass. – Senior Griffin Price (Allendale, N.J.) put home the game's lone goal with 2:27 remaining in regulation and sophomore Robbie West (Weymouth, Mass.) made three saves as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team picked up a crucial, 1-0 win over Endicott Saturday night.

The win snapped a six-game losing and 10-game (0-8-2) winless streak to the Gulls as the Leopards notched their first win over Endicott in just over nine years. Additionally, the Black & Gold win for the first time at Endicott since October 6, 2007, snapping a seven-game road losing streak in the series.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth won for the fourth time in the last five contests, with three of those wins coming by one goal. Endicott (8-4-2, 3-1-2 Commonwealth Coast Conference) suffered its first league defeat of the season. The win was also the first road win of the 2019 campaign for the Black & Gold.
  • The Leopards put a pair of shots on goal in the second and 14th minutes, however, were unable to break the tie early. In the 20th minute, sophomore Kaleb Gebremeskel (Georgetown, Texas) flicked a header that went just wide of the mark.
  • Endicott had three shot attempts late in the first half, with on net, which was saved by West. The Gulls had a corner kick with 52 seconds left in the half, however, were unable to generate a scoring chance
  • Senior Drew DeCoste (Somerset, Mass.) put a header on net off a free kick in the 54th minute but was denied by freshman Zach Regulbuto (Somers, Conn.).
  • The teams traded shots on the goal in the 76th and 79th minutes, with Price putting a header on net in the 79th minute.
  • Endicott senior Evan Couchot (Mason, Ohio) had a shot blocked in the 87th minute and, five seconds later, sophomore Matthew Cronin's (Glastonbury, Conn.) second chance bid went wide.
  • Price put home his fourth tally of the season when he took a pass from Gebremeskel and made a run down the left side, burying a low shot past Regulbuto.
  • The Gulls had one last chance to tie it with 27 seconds left, however, the shot attempt went wide.

SERIES NOTES:

  • Tonight marked the 25th meeting all-time between the two programs with Endicott holding a 14-9-2 series advantage.

OTHER NOTES:

  • Price now leads the team in goals (five), points (12), and game-winning goals (two) and has scored at least a point in three of the last four games.
  • West notched his second shutout of the season.
