Rodriguez, Filar Earn All-CCC Honors in Men's Tennis

BOSTON, Mass. – Two members of the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team have been honored by the Commonwealth Coast Conference as all-conference selections. The all-conference teams and major award winners were announced by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye after a vote of the nine head men's tennis coaches in the league.

Seniors Juan Rodriguez (Quito, Ecuador) and Dave Filar (Wolcott, Conn.) earned All-CCC accolades as Rodriquez was named – for the fourth straight season – First Team All-CCC in singles play, while he and Filar earned first team all-conference honors in doubles play.

The program's all-time leader in singles wins, Rodriguez posted an 8-3 record this season while playing all 11 matches at number one. In seven conference matches the 2011 CCC Player of the Year was 5-2. Having played all 53 of his matches at number one singles, Rodriguez ended his stellar career with a 45-8 singles record, which included a perfect 17-0 mark as a sophomore.

In doubles play, Rodriguez was 9-1 this season and ends his career with a 33-12 mark, with the 33 wins placing him atop the program's all-time win list. In addition to earning first team honors in doubles play this season, he also was first team last season and honorable mention in 2010 and 2011.

After playing primarily number two doubles during the first three years of his career, Filar played all 13 of his matches at number one this year, where he teamed with Rodriguez for a 9-1 record and a 10-3 record overall. Over his career Filar posted an 18-16 record in doubles play, which includes an 11-3 record at number one, and his 18 doubles wins rank him 10th on the program's win list. Filar also had 17 singles wins over his four years, including going 6-6 this season. He was 2-1 at number two and 4-5 at number three.

Wentworth finished the 2013 campaign with a 6-8 record. The Leopards earned their third CCC Tournament berth in the last four seasons with a sixth-place finish in the league standings and lost to Eastern Nazarene, 5-0, in the opening round.
