Men's Tennis Opens Spring Season With Loss to Bentley

HAVERHILL, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule on Saturday afternoon by suffering an 8-1 setback to Division II Bentley.

With the win the Falcons improve to 3-1 on the season while the Leopards fall to 0-2.

The Leopards were sept in doubles play as junior Josh Dowd (Bristol, Conn.) and sophomore Zach Peter (Preston, Conn.) fell, 8-0, at number three, sophomores Matthew Smith (Pelham, N.H.) and Nate Schwartz (Chester Springs, Pa.) lost, 8-2, at number one, and junior James Drum (Madison, Conn.) and freshman Jeff Tocco (Plymouth, Mass.) lost at number two by an 8-5 score.

In singles play, Smith was defeated at number one (6-1, 6-0), senior Dylan Melnik (Raleigh, N.C.) dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision at number five, Schwartz fell at number three (6-0, 6-2), Drum was bested at number two (6-3, 6-3), and Peter suffered a 6-0, 6-0 setback at number six. Tocco earned the Leopards' lone point at number four with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 win.

Wentworth resumes play on March 18 at Bridgewater State.
