Endicott Soars Past Men's Tennis

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott College men's team swept doubles play and won three singles matches to take a 6-0 decision over Wentworth Institute of Technology in Commonwealth Coast Conference action played at the Bass River Tennis Club.

With the win the Gulls improve to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in CCC play while the Leopards fall to 2-6 (1-3).

In doubles play the Gulls took a pair of 8-2 finishes and one 8-4 final. Senior Justin Warshavsky (East Hartford, Conn.) and junior Eric Pierce (Barrington, R.I.) started the day by defeating sophomore duo Nate Schwartz (Chester Springs, Pa.) and James Thomas (Lakeville, Maine) in an 8-2 finish at number two. Sophomore Sean McAndrews (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) and freshman Matthew Doherty (Plymouth, Mass.) defeated junior Josh Dowd (Bristol, Conn.) and sophomore Zach Peter (Preston, Conn.) in an 8-2 final at number three.

Endicott completed its sweep in doubles play when junior Michael Dolph (Stratford, Conn.) and freshman Christopher Kirkpatrick (Newburyport, Mass.) had an 8-4 triumph over junior James Drum (Madison, Conn.) and freshman Jeff Tocco (Plymouth, Mass.) at number one.

Playing the match to decision, the Gulls captured wins at numbers five, three, and one. At number five, freshman Nicholas Eherts (New Miflord, Conn.) defeated freshman Doug Avellino (Woodstock, Vt.), 6-1, 6-0, while at number three, Dolph defeated senior Dylan Melnik (Raleigh, N.C.), 6-1, 6-1. Shortly after Kirkpatrick defeated Drum, 6-1, 6-2 at number one.

Wentworth is at UMass Boston on Thursday.
