Men's Tennis Falls in Home Finale

WESTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University men's tennis team won its fifth straight match and wrapped up the top seed in the upcoming Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament as the Hawks swept Wentworth, 9-0, in a CCC match played at Regis College.

With the win Roger Williams improves to 11-4 overall and finishes conference play with an 8-0 mark. Wentworth falls to 3-8 (2-5).

Senior Ryan Swanson (West Newbury, Mass.) teamed with junior Eric Laboissonniere (Cumberland, R.I.) to take an 8-2 win over junior James Drum (Madison, Conn.) and freshman Jeff Tocco (Plymouth, Mass.) at No. 1. At No. 2, seniors Zack Bussiere (Colchester, Conn.) and Kyle Bull (Pleasantville, N.Y.) were 8-1 winners over sophomores Nate Schwartz (Chester Springs, Pa.) and James Thomas (Lakeville, Mass.). The Hawks completed the sweep with an 8-0 win at No. 3 as junior Jonah Schwartz (Orange, Conn.) and freshman Grant Rosenberg (Melville, N.Y.) triumphed over junior Josh Dowd (Bristol, Conn.) and senior Sean Nolan (Newport, R.I.).

Rosenberg defeated sophomore Zach Peter (Preston, Conn.), 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5 and Schwartz's 6-0, 6-1 win over senior Dylan Melnik (Raleigh, N.C.) at No. 4 clinched the win for the Hawks.

Bull defeated sophomore Mike Withington (Plymouth, Mass.) at No. 6, 6-0, 6-0, Laboissoniere defeated Drum, 6-1, 6-1, and Bussiere triumphed over Schwartz, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 2. At No. 3, Swanson defeated Tocco 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (11-9).

Wentworth is at Lesley on Sunday while Roger Williams is at Holy Cross on Wednesday.
