Men's Tennis Drops Season Opener

WESTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team opened its 2015-16 slate with an 8-1 loss at Regis in a non-conference match.

With the win the Pride improve to 3-0 on the season while the Leopards sit at 0-1.

Regis jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles play as Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) and Luke Horton (Bass Harbor, Maine) defeated Matthew Smith (Pelham, N.H.) and James Drum (Madison, Conn.) at No. 1 doubles, 8-4. Jarid Polley (North Reading, Mass.) and Matt Quattrociocchi (Germantown, Md.) added an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles over Jeff Tocco (Plymouth, Mass.) and Zach Peter (Preston, Conn.), while Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) and Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.) defeated James Thomas (Lakeville, Mass.) and Thinh Dang (Boston, Mass.) at No. 3 doubles by a score of 8-3.

Regis was able to win five of the six singles matchups to post the final score of 8-1. Chris Harrow defeated Matthew Smith at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-3, with Horton adding an 6-0, 6-3 win over James Drum at No. 2 singles. Jarid Polley was victorious at No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Zach Peter, and Cam Charbonneau (Guilford, Conn.) defeated James Thomas 6-1, 7-5 at No. 5 singles. Jeremy Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) rounded out singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles over Thinh Dang.

Tocco grabbed the lone point of the day for the Leopards with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Quattrociocchi at No. 4 singles.

Regis returns to action next Friday when they travel to Gordon College for a 3:00 p.m. match. Wentworth travels to Holy Cross on October 2 as well, taking on the Crusaders at 4:00 p.m.
