Men's Tennis Drops Spring Opener

HAVERHILL, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team saw its spring season open with a 9-0 loss to Division II Bentley in a match played at the Cedardale Athletic Club.

In doubles play, juniors Matthew Smith (Pelham, N.H.) and Nate Schwartz (Chester Springs, Pa.) were defeated by Bentley's George Samander and Brendan McCarthy, 8-2. At the number two flight, senior James Drum (Madison, Conn.) and sophomore Henry Tittmann (Cambridge, Mass.) were edged, 8-6, by Dylan Granat and Michael Fuca. The Falcons increased their lead to 3-0 with an 8-1 win at number three as Chase Rosa and Brett Gilman defeated senior Josh Dowd (Bristol, Conn.) and junior Zach Peter (Preston, Conn.), 8-1.

Singles play saw Bentley drop just 10 games over the six flights. Samander defeated Smith at number one, 6-1, 6-2, Rosa earned a straight-set victory over Drum at number two while Fuca defeated Schwartz at number three, 6-0, 6-1.

Number four saw Gilman triumph over Tittmann, 6-0, 6-2, while Jerry Liang defeated Peter, 6-3, 6-0, at number five. Nicholas Hatcher defeated sophomore Seng Ly (Lynn, Mass.), 6-0, 6-1, at number six.

Wentworth (0-2) returns to action on March 16 when the Leopards host Bridgewater State.
