Men's Tennis Falls in Conference Opener

WESTON, Mass. – In the Commonwealth Coast Conference opener for both squads, the Endicott College men's tennis team swept Wentworth Institute of Technology, 9-0, Wednesday night at Regis College.

With the win the Gulls upped their win streak to three, improving to 6-5 on the season while the Leopards see their two-match win streak come to an end and fall to 2-3.

At No. 3 doubles, junior Sean McAndrews (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) teamed with sophomore Nicholas Eherts (New Milford, Conn.) to take an 8-1 win over junior Zach Peter (Preston, Conn.) and senior Josh Dowd (Bristol, Conn.). No. 2 doubles saw junior Eric Pierce (Barrington, R.I.) and freshman Keaton McCleary (Newtown, Conn.) defeated senior James Drum (Madison, Conn.) and sophomore Seng Ly (Lynn, Mass.), 8-0. Sophomore Chris Kirkpatrick (Newburyport, Mass.) and senior Michael Dolph (Stratford, Conn.) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win over junior Matthew Smith (Pelham, N.H.) and sophomore Henry Tittmann (Cambridge, Mass.).

Eherts bested Ly at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-2, before the match was clinched by McAndrews at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Peter. Dolph defeated Drum , 6-0, 6-4, at No. 2 and sophomore Matthew Doherty (Plymouth, Mass.) defeated junior Thinh Dang (Boston, Mass.), 6-1, 6-2.

No. 1 singles saw an exciting battle between Kirkpatrick and Smith. Smith took the first set, 6-1, before Kirkpatrick forced the tiebreaker with a 6-2 second set win. In the tiebreaker, the two battled back and forth before Kirkpatrick edged Smith, 13-11. Pierce rounded out the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Tittmann.

Wentworth is at Curry on Saturday while Endicott hosts Eastern Nazarene that same day.
