Men's Tennis Falls at Eastern Nazarene

QUINCY, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team suffered a 9-0 setback at Eastern Nazarene in the Leopards' penultimate contest of the 2015-16 season.

With the win the Lions improve to 11-6 overall and 3-2 in CCC play while the Leopards fall to 4-8 (1-6).

Despite two of three tightly contested doubles matches, Wentworth trailed 3-0 at the conclusion of the three flights. At No. 1, freshman Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) and sophomore Vladislav Tolmachev (Perm, Russia) edged seniors James Drum (Madison, Conn.) and Josh Dowd (Bristol, Conn.), 8-0. At No. 2, junior Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and senior Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) defeated junior Zach Peter (Preston, Conn.) and sophomore Seng Ly (Lynn, Mass.), 8-6. Eastern Nazarene completed the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win at No. 3 as freshman Shaw Campbell (Redding, Calif.) and junior Yahalel Campbell (Chicago, Ill.) defeated juniors James Thomas (Lakeville, Mass.) and Mike Withington (Plymouth, Mass.).

Singles play saw the Lions win all six matches in straight sets. At No. 1, Partyka defeated Drum, 6-1, 6-2; No. 2 featured Tolmachev defeating Ly, 6-0, 6-0; Peterno defeated Peter at No. 3, 6-4, 6-4; Biondi bested Dowd at No. 4, 6-1, 6-3; Campbell took a 6-1, 6-2 win over Withington at No. 5; and freshman Brandon Jenkins (Norton, Mass.) defeated Thomas at No. 6, 6-1, 6-4.

The Leopards conclude their season on Tuesday at Salve Regina.
