Men's Tennis Tripped up at Salem State

SALEM, Mass. – A sweep of the doubles matches gave the Salem State men's tennis team a 3-0 lead and the Vikings never looked back in a 7-2 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

With the win the Vikings improve to 4-3 while the Leopards fall to 2-5.

Senior John Didonato (Newbury, Mass.) and freshman Andrew Muttiah (Westwood, Mass.) picked up an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles over freshman Tyler Hall (Framingham, Mass.) and senior Jeff Tocco (Plymouth, Mass.). At No. 3, sophomore Noah Hodgkins (Winthrop, Mass.) teamed with classmate Mitchell Dyer (North Attleboro, Mass.) to earn an 8-2 win over senior Seng Ly (Lynn, Mass.) and sophomore Mun Chet (Braintree, Mass.). The doubles sweep was completed when junior Chen Chen (Lawrence, Mass.) and freshman Roni Brazile (Brockton, Mass.) defeated freshman Jarrett North (Roanoke, Texas) and sophomore Alex Mularski (Auburn, Mass.), 8-1.

Dyer gave Salem State a 4-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Mularski at No. 5 before Muttiah's 6-2, 6-0 win over Tocco at No. 1 clinched the match. Hodgkins bested freshman Matt Roberts (Westfield, Mass.), 6-0, 6-4, at No. 6, making it 6-0 in favor of the Vikings. North got Wentworth on the board with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Didonato at No. 3 and Ly followed suit with a 4-6, 7-5, 11-9 win over Brazile at No. 4. Chen completed the match with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Hall at No. 2.

Wentworth is at Salve Regina on Saturday.
