Men's Tennis Edged at Johnson & Wales

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Jarrett North (Roanoke, Texas) won at No.3 doubles and No. 2 singles to account for half of the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team's four points, however, the Leopards dropped a 5-4 decision to Johnson & Wales on Sunday afternoon.

North and junior Mun Chet (Braintree, Mass.) gave the Leopards a 1-0 lead with an 8-2 win over Robert Michalofsky and Brandon Case at No. 3. The Wildcats took the remaining two doubles flights with Will Lyons and Steven Heizler teaming up to take an 8-4 win over junior Alex Mularski (Auburn, Mass.) and sophomore Harrison Maki (Rutland, Mass.) at No. 2 and Alexander Rohana and Franz Fonck earning an 8-6 win at No. 1 over sophomores Tyler Hall (Framingham, Mass.) and Tristan Maus (Mansfield, Mass.).

Wentworth evened the match at 2-all as Maki picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win over Joseph McGuigan at No. 5 singles before Johnson & Wales made it 3-2 when Heizler defeated Mularski, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2. Fonck defeated Maus, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 4 to give the hosts a 4-2 lead. Freshman Samuel Ferro (Whitman, Mass.) brought Wentworth back within a point when he defeated Michalofsky at No. 6, 6-3, 6-4, however, the Wildcats clinched the match when Lyons defeated Hall, 6-3, 6-3, a No. 1. North picked up a win at No. 2 as he won the first set 7-6 (7-5) and was leading in the second set, 2-1, when his opponent retired due to injury.

Wentworth (0-1) concludes the fall portion of its schedule on Friday afternoon at Regis.
