Western New England Tops Men's Tennis

WESTON, Mass. – In its final home match of the season the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team was defeated by Western New England, 9-0, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.

With the win the Golden Bears improve to 9-3 overall and 5-1 in CCC play while the Leopards fall to 6-11 (1-5).

No. 2 doubles saw the WNE duo of junior Hippolyte Bonnet (Lille, France) and junior Luke Surawski (Wethersfield, Conn.) defeat sophomore Jarrett North (Roanoke, Texas) and junior Mun Chet (Braintree, Mass.). At No. 1, junior David Kalmer (Slingerlands, N.Y.) teamed with senior Justin Kohut (South Windsor, Conn.) to defeat sophomore Tyler Hall (Framingham, Mass.) and sophomore Tristan Maus (Mansfield, Mass.). Sophomore Matthew Russell (Auburn, Mass.) and freshman Joshua Jones (Schenectady, N.Y.) were an 8-3 winner over sophomore Harrison Maki (Rutland, Mass.) and sophomore Taymour Mansi (Alexandria, Egypt).

Kohut defeated Maus, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 to give Western New England a 4-0 lead before Surawski's 6-1, 6-1 win over Maki at No. 4 clinched the match for the Golden Bears. Bonnet defeated North at No. 2, 6-1, 6-0, senior Michael Tran (West Haven, Conn.) defeated sophomore Matt Roberts (Westfield, Mass.), 6-1, 6-2, at No. 6, junior Griffin Arnold (Meriden, Conn.) was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Chet at No. 5, and Kalmer defeated Hall, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1.

Wentworth is at Nichols on Wednesday, April 24.
