Johnson & Wales Tops Men's Tennis

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University men's tennis team picked up its first win of the Wildcats' fall campaign (1-1) as they defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 9-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Freshman Luke Nickerson and junior Gianni Rodrigues defeated juniors Tyler Hall (Framingham, Mass.) and Tristan Maus (Mansfield, Mass.), 8-0, at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Stephen Heizler teamed with sophomore Will Lyons to defeat junior Harrison Maki (Rutland, Mass.) and senior Mun Chet (Braintree, Mass.), 8-1, at No.3. Senior Franz Fonck and senior Alexander Rohana completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win over junior Jarrett North (Roanoke, Texas) and sophomore Kevin Salomon (West Newton, Mass.) at No. 1.
  • Lyons defeated Maki, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5 before Rohana clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Maus.
  • Rodrigues defeated sophomore Samuel Ferro (Whitman, Mass.), 6-0, 6-1, at No. 6, Nickerson topped Hall, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1, Heizler was a 6-2, 1-6, 10-7 winner over North at No. 3, and Fonck defeated Salomon, 7-5, 6-0, at No. 2.
