Indoor Track Competes at Tufts Stampede

MEDFORD, Mass. – On the heels of the Wentworth Institute of Technology indoor track team posting the second-fastest Division III time in the distance medley relay to date Friday night, the Leopards competed in the Tufts Stampede on Saturday.

Friday's DMR competed at the John Thomas Terrier Classic Friday night and finished fifth out of nine schools, however were second among Division III schools. Junior Dan McSolla (Bridgewater, Mass.), sophomore Sam Gerken (Yarmouth, Maine), freshman Luke Trickey (Westbrook, Maine), and and junior Patrick Hopkins (Lansdale, Pa.) completed the race in 10:15.29. Saturday's action saw freshman Gamael Eugene (Clinton, Mass.) compete in the triple jump for the first time this year. His lone jump of 42 feet, two inches placed him first in his flight and fifth overall.

In the 60-meter dash, Trickey placed third in his heat with a time of 7.58 seconds but did not advance to the finals.

Three Leopards ran in the 3,000-meter run – Hopkins, sophomore Josh Gangemi (Norton, Mass.), and senior David Ouellette (Wells, Maine). Hopkins finished 16th with a time of 9:09.66, Gangemi was 21st (9:22.11), and Ouellette was 34th out of 42 runners (9:54.39).

McSolla took home first place in the mile besting the 34-runner field with a time of 4:20.29 while sophomore Nathan Ouellette (Wells, Maine) was 30th after finishing with a time of 5:17.60.

Sophomore Chris Kaberle (Pelham, N.H.) was 21st out of 30 runners in the 600-meter run, finishing in a time of 1:32.66.

In the 26-runner 1,000-meter race, junior Zach Howey (Sherwood, Ark.) was 20th with a time of 2:52.56 while junior Clay Harman (Broad Brook, Conn.) finished with a time of 3:06.72 to finish 25th.

Trickey and Eugene competed in the 200-meter dash, placing 37th and 57th, respectively. Trickey ran a time of 24.78 while Eugene finished in a time of 27.57.

The Leopards will next compete on February 11 at the David Hemery Invitational at Boston University.
