Indoor Track Has Season-Best Performance at USATF New England Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – More than half of the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's indoor track team ran had a career-best performance at the USATF New England Meet hosted on the campus of Harvard University on Sunday afternoon.

Highlighting the day was sophomore Tyler Cosma (Center Moriches, N.Y.), who booked back-to-back meets with a PR in the 800m run. Cosma clocked in a 2:00.24, just missing the sub-two minute mark. He trumped his previous PR of 2:01.47 set earlier this month at the BU Valentine Invite, and came up just short of a DIII New England's qualifier. Classmate Alexis Umana (Revere, Mass.) joined Cosma with a PR in the event, finishing at 2:12.17.

Cross Country standout Wes Brimeyer (Dubuque, Iowa) ran with confidence in the 3,000m, finishing at 9:36.70, which shattered his previous career-best of 9:50.07, set during his first season with the Black & Gold.

In the 400m race, both Wentworth entries of Chris Kaberle (Pelham, N.H.) and Josue Soto Lora (Dorchester, Mass.) ran a career-best. Soto Lora ran a 54.21, while Kaberle clocked in at 56.73.

Sophomore Hunter Wintle (Detroit ,Maine) dominated the day with a PR in all three of his events. Wintle started his banner day on the track with a 25.41 finish in the 200m dash, surpassing his 25.47 mark set last meet at BU. Freshman Cam Avellani (Methuen, Mass.) also dominated the short sprints on the track, with a PR in the 60m dash (7.78) and the 200m dash (24.81).

Wintle carried fast legs to the 4x4 meter relay, where the Leopards finished fourth, and wrapped up the day in the jump pit with a 12.24m (40'02") stick in the triple jump. Classmate Carter Richmond (Pittsfield, Maine) and sophomore Marina Schmid (Mendon, Mass.) also booked a PR in the triple jump at 11.82m (38'09") and 10.21m (33'06"), respectively.  Rounding out notables in the field was freshman Luxas Max (Seabrooke, N.H.), who set a new personal-best in the shot put with a 9.48m (31'01") toss.

UP NEXT:

The Leopards will enter three relays into the DIII New England's Meet, which will again be hosted in Cambridge by MIT next weekend. Junior Joe Aronov (Andover, Mass.) will compete at next week's meet in the pole vault, as he historically qualified for the event in his very first vault with the Black & Gold.
