Potts, Mullen Earn GNAC Honors

WINTHROP, Mass. – After posting a 4-1 record and a second place finish at the SUNYIT Wildcat Invitational, two members of the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team have earned accolades from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. Sophomore Alex Potts (Niverville, N.Y.) was named the league's defensive player of the week while freshman Sean Mullen (Longwood, Fla.) was tabbed as the league's rookie of the week.

On the defensive side, Potts averaged 1.50 blocks per set, which included seven blocks in a 3-0 win over SUNYIT. He also had five blocks in a 3-0 win over Endicott and a 3-0 triumph over Bard. On the offensive side he hit .511, which included seven kills in a 3-0 win over Vassar and six each in the wins over SUNYIT and Endicott. Through Wentworth's first five matches he is also averaging 0.50 service aces per set and 1.86 kills per set.

Mullen's collegiate debut was impressive as he averaged 3.00 kills, 0.40 aces, and 1.27 digs per set while hitting .384 for the week. In his first collegiate match he helped the Black & Gold snap a nine-match home losing streak to the two-time NCAA Tournament participant Gulls with a 10 kill, three-ace performance. He hit .444 in a 3-0 win over Bard, which included nine kills on 18 swings and had eight kills and hit .583 in a 3-0 win over SUNYIT. Mullen was one of two Leopards named to the all-tournament team at the SUNYIT Wildcat Invitational.

Wentworth opens GNAC play on Thursday night when the Leopards host Albertus Magnus at 7:00 p.m.
