Men's Volleyball Sweeps Weekly Awards For Second Straight Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – For the second week in a row the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team has swept the Great Northeast Athletic Conference weekly awards as sophomore Collin Ritter (Feeding Hills, Mass.) was named the offensive player of the week for the second time in three weeks, sophomore Alex Potts (Niverville, N.Y.) won his second straight – and third in four weeks – defensive player of the week award, and freshman Sean Mullen (Longwood, Fla.) captured his fourth straight rookie of the week honor. The awards came after matches played from February 9-15.

Ritter moved to third on Wentworth's all-time assist list with 1,509 helpers as he averaged 11.03 assists per set in a 2-0 week. He had 38 assists, seven digs and two blocks in a 3-0 win over Hunter and had 42 assists, two aces, and three blocks in a 3-1 win over defending national champion and fifth-ranked Springfield.

In 14 matches, Ritter is averaging 10.20 assists, 2.00 digs, 0.73 blocks, and 0.34 service aces per set. He presently ranks second in Division III in assists per set.

Defensively, Potts averaged 1.14 blocks per set to help the Leopards go 2-0 on the week. He had three blocks in the win over Hunter and five blocks in the win over Springfield. Offensively he had 11 kills in that match and hit .355 for the week.

Potts is averaging 2.33 kills and 1.30 blocks per set and is hitting .435. He is presently ranked second in Division III in blocks per set and third in hitting percentage.

Mullen averaged 2.71 kills, 1.29 digs, and 0.43 blocks per set to help the Leopards win both their matches last week. He had had eight kills and hit .429 in the win over Hunter and had 11 kills, six digs, and two blocks to help the Leopards defeat Springfield.

Averaging 2.98 kills, 0.30 service aces, and 1.59 digs per set while hitting .259, Mullen is having an impressive first-year campaign, having won all four GNAC Rookie of the Week Awards.

Winners of six in a row and sporting a 12-2 record, Wentworth hosts10th-ranked NYU on Saturday afternoon.
