Men's Volleyball Runs Win Streak to Three

NASHUA, N.H. – Sophomore Jake Reed (Arvada, Colo.) led the Leopards with 10 kills and hit .364, as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team defeated Daniel Webster College 3-0 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

The 14th-ranked Leopards improve to 16-4 on the year, while the Eagles now stand at 3-10.

Trailing 6-4 to start the match, Wentworth orchestrated a 9-2 run that was capped off by three straight services aces by freshman Sean Mullen (Longwood, Fla.). The Leopards controlled the remainder of the set, winning it 25-16.

Daniel Webster came out to a hot start in the second set, scoring seven straight points to lead 9-2. Five straight Wentworth points brought it to 9-7, and the Black and Gold managed to tie the set at 13-all each thanks to a kill from Reed. The set remained close up until the score was tied at 16-all and the Leopards jumped ahead and never looked back, capturing the set 25-20.

After falling behind 2-0, Wentworth scored four straight points and didn't lose the lead the rest of the way. The Leopards saw contributions from numerous players throughout the roster, and closed the match on a Reed kill to capture the third 25-20.

Mullen finished with six kills and three service aces. Freshman Kevin McPeek (Bethlehem, Pa.) led with nine digs and sophomore Collin Ritter (Feeding Hills, Mich.) handed out 26 assists while knocking down four kills.

The Leopards hit .293 for the match while the Eagles hit .178.

Wenworth plays again on Saturday when they travel to Albertus Magnus for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match also featuring Mount Ida. Daniel Webster returns home Tuesday for a conference match against Newbury.
