Men's Volleyball Takes Care of Colby-Sawyer in GNAC Opener

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team took down Colby-Sawyer College in straight sets on Thursday evening inside Tansey Gymnasium.

The Leopards open their Great Northeast Athletic Conference schedule at 1-0 in their inaugural meeting with first-year program Colby-Sawyer, and improve to 3-1 this season.

Freshman Ian Carlson (Parker, Colo.) hit .800% with a career-high eight kills to lead the Leopard attack from start to finish. Wentworth hit .400% as a team throughout the match, highlighted by .722% hitting in the second set with 13 kills and zero errors on 18 swings. 

Junior Ryan Engel (Floral Park, N.Y.) booked six kills while hitting .385%, followed by five kills from sophomore Sean Spencer (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), who was one of two players to eclipse the .500% hitting mark. Defensively, the Leopards edged the Chargers 24-16 in team digs, paced by junior Ryan Love (Gaithersburg, Md.) with six. Junior Augusto Rodriguez-Guerrios (San Juan, P.R.) dished out 22 assists in the effort. 

The Chargers were led by freshman Eric Miller (La Grange, Ill.) who had three kills, three kills, and a solo block. Freshman AJ Gnieski (Needham, Mass.) contributed with four digs and also recorded seven assists as Colby-Sawyer's primary setter.

Wentworth (3-1, 1-0 GNAC) returns to Tansey Gymnasium for a tri-match with Lasell College and No. 15 Arcadia.
