Men's Volleyball Clinches First-Round Bye on Senior Day

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth men's volleyball team clinched the No. 2 seed a first-round bye for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference postseason tournament, after a 3-0 sweep (25-12, 25-17, 25-14) of Regis College Saturday morning inside Tansey Gym.

The Leopards conclude the regular season at 18-10 overall and 11-3 in the conference. Regis dips to 10-15 this season and 3-11 in the GNAC.

Prior to the match, the Wentworth men's volleyball community honored senior Brian Drouse (Dallas, Pa.) for his dedication to the men's volleyball program. Drouse is the only current member of the men's volleyball team to appear for the Leopards in three GNAC Championship matches, and also appeared in two NCAA Tournament weekends. Drouse notched a season-high eight kills in today's match, just five away from his career-high set in 2017 at Albertus Magnus. The senior outside hitter also served two aces and dished out one assist.

Wentworth hit a blistering .649 in the match, which ranks second all-time in program history.

Junior Ryan Engel (Floral Park, N.Y.) led the Leopard attack with 11 kills and hit .625, his third match this season at .600 or better. Engel also added six digs in the winning effort along with an assisted block for a team-best 11.5 points.

Junior Augusto Rodriguez-Guerrios (San Juan, P.R.) split setter duties with freshman Connor Adams (Budd Lake, N.J.), who dished out 18 and 16 assists, respectively. Sophomore Peter Klembczyk (Penfield, N.Y.) led the defense with eight digs.

Wentworth will have a home playoff match on Thursday, April 11 at 7:00 p.m. against the winner of the first-round match featuring #3 JWU and #6 Regis.
