Men's Cross Country Successful in Debut

BOSTON, Mass. – Competing in its first-ever event as a varsity program, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's cross country team placed fourth out of eight teams at the 2014 Emmanuel College Fens Classic. The Leopards accumulated 98 points at the three-mile event, which was just two behind third-place UMass Dartmouth. Brandeis took the title with 23 points.

Four freshmen finished among the Leopards' top scorers with Dan McSolla (Bridgewater, Mass.) finishing 10th in his collegiate debut, covering the course in a time of 15:50. Patrick Hopkins (Lansdale, Pa.) finished 13th with a time of 16:05, Alex Robbins (Mansfield, Mass.) placed 18th with a time of 16:14, and Stephen Gencarelli (Westerly, R.I.) was 24th after posting a time of 16:32. Junior Kyle Schwartz (South Windsor, Conn.) completed Wentworth's top five runners after finishing 52nd with a time of 17:34.

Sophomore Ben Cautela (Westwood, Mass.) was two seconds behind for a 53rd-place finish in 17:36. Classmate David Ouellette (Wells, Maine) was 63rd with a time of 17:55, freshman Clay Harman (Broad Brook, Conn.) finished 64th with a time of 17:57, and freshman Noah Conti (Swampscott, Mass.) was 72nd after posting a time of 18:13.

Wentworth will compete at the Roger Williams Invitational next Saturday at Colt State Park in Bristol, R.I.
