Men's Cross Country Finishes Second at Pop Crowell Invitational

WENHAM, Mass. – Paced by four runners finishing among the first 12 to cross the finish line, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's cross country team finished second at the 43rd Pop Crowell Invitational, hosted by Gordon College. The Leopards accumulated 52 points at the 13-team event, which was 16 points behind the University of New England and eight points ahead of host Fighting Scots.

Freshman Dan McSolla (Bridgewater, Mass.) finished third, earning two points as he covered the eight-kilometer course in 28:05. Freshman Patrick Hopkins (Lansdale, Pa.) was sixth (five points) with a time of 28:33 while classmate Alex Robbins (Mansfield, Mass.) rounded out the Leopards who finished in the top ten as he completed the course in a time of 28:45 to finish 10th (nine points).

Rookie Stephen Gencarelli (Westerly, R.I.) finished 12th (11 points) with a time of 29:01 and junior Kyle Schwartz (South Windsor, Conn.) rounded out the scoring finishers for the Black & Gold, finishing 27th (25 points) with a time of 30:55.

Freshman Clay Harman (Broad Brook, Conn.) finished in 38th-place finish with a time of 31:39, freshman Zach Howey (Pitman, N.J.) was 59th with a time of 32:23, sophomore Ben Cautela (Westwood, Mass.) covered the course in a time of 33:53 to finish 79th, sophomore Mike Zanni (Reading, Mass.) finished 97th with a time of 35:09 and sophomore Brian Ferullo (Pelham, N.H.) covered the course in 38:07, which placed him 121st among the 149 runners.

The Leopards return to action next Saturday when they will compete at the Tri-State Invitational.
