Men's Cross Country Takes Second at Saints Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Stephen Gencarelli (Westerly, R.I.) finished fourth overall to help the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's cross country team finish second at the 2014 Emmanuel Saints Invitational, which was run at Boston's Franklin Park on Friday afternoon.

The Leopards placed three runners among the top 10 finishers and recorded 69 points, which was just four points behind Babson's 65. Wheaton (86) Norwich (117), and Johnson & Wales (143) rounded out the top five in the 20-team field.

Gencarelli covered the eight-kilometer course in a time of 27:21 for his fourth-place finish and was followed by freshman Dan McSolla's (Bridgewater, Mass.) sixth-place time of 27:34. Freshman Alex Robbins (Mansfield, Mass.) placed 10th in the field, finishing with a time of 27:42.

Freshman Patrick Hopkins (Lansdale, Pa.) placed 15th with a time of 27:58 and junior Kyle Schwartz (South Windsor, Conn.) rounded out Wentworth's scoring total after he finished 34th with a time of 29:03.

Sophomore David Ouellette (Wells, Maine) finished 58th with a time of 29:41, followed by freshman Zach Howey's (Pitman, N.J.) 61st-place finish (29:46).

Sophomore Mike Zanni (Reading, Mass.) finished 106th (31:32), classmate Ben Cautela (Westwood, Mass.) was 114th (32:07), and sophomore Brian Ferullo (Pelham, N.H.) completed the course in a time of 35:30, which placed him 164th.

The Leopards will compete in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championships on Saturday, November 1.
