Cross Country Wins at UNE Invitational

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Placing three runners among the top 10, the Wentworth Institute of Technology cross country team captured the 2017 University of New England Invitational, which was run at Rotary Park.

The Leopards accumulated 48 points to best the host Nor'Easters (59) while Endicott was third with 96 points.

Senior Alex Robbins (Mansfield, Mass.) was Wentworth's top finisher, covering the 10-kilometer course in a time of 26:48.8 which was second among the 131-runner field. Classmate Pat Hopkins (Lansdale, Pa.) took fifth with a time of 27:35.8, while junior Josh Gangemi (Norton, Mass.) was 10th as he crossed the line in a time of 28:04.1. Sophomore Tom Caruso (Mahopac, N.Y.) placed 16th with a time of 29:51.2 and senior Zach Howey (Sherwood, Ark.) was 18th (30:0.5).

Freshman Anthony Maida (Peabody, Mass.) was 21st (30:19.1), classmate Tyler Cosma (Center Moriches, N.Y.) placed 29th (30:43.0), freshman Davio DeLuca (Nottingham, N.H.) was 47th (31:36.3), freshman Wes Brimeyer (Dubuque, Iowa) placed 54th (32:04.8), junior Nate Ouellette (Wells, Maine) crossed the line in a time of 32:07.6 which was 58th, classmate Chris Kaberle (Pelham, N.H.) was 70th (33:00.0), and freshman Rob Moran (Billerica, Mass.) placed 83rd (34:27.6).

Sophomore Samantha Madden (Plainville, Mass.) competed in the five-kilometer race and placed 101st out of 130 runners with a time of 28:30.6.

Wentworth next races at the 49th Annual Codfish Bowl Meet in Franklin Park on September 23.
