Top Five Shine as Men's Cross Country Takes Second at Pop Crowell Invite

WENHAM, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's cross country team placed second overall at the Pop Crowell Invitational hosted by Gordon College on Saturday afternoon.

"Today was a successful day for our team," commented head coach Dan Roark. "Being able to race fast on this course that will host the conference meet in October, along with running well against many conference teams is a great step forward."

Wentworth's top five runners all finished the 8k race in the top 20, highlighted by a third-place finish from senior Josh Gangemi (Norton, Mass.) at 27:16.8. Junior Tom Caruso (Mahopac, N.Y.) had a PR of 27:55.6 and clocked in at 8thplace overall, while sophomore Tyler Cosma (Center Moriches, N.Y.) just missed a personal best with a 28:13.1 finish.

Sophomores Will Allen (West Hartford, Conn.) and Wes Brimeyer (Dubuque, Iowa) rounded out the top five for the Black & Gold at 28:28.1 and 28:41.9, respectively, each recording a personal record in the effort. Allen shattered his previous PR in the meet, as Roark commented, "He showed he can race cross country well with a PR by over a minute."

Freshman Alex Foote finished his first collegiate 8K at 31:57.1, while senior Chris Kaberle clocked in at 34:30.

"Our top five had a phenomenal race with a tough week of training, and were able to run a personal record or close to it. Overall, we had a great day with hopefully more to come," concluded Roark.

Wentworth is off until Saturday, October 6 when they travel to Westfield, Mass. For the James Earley Invitational.
