Cross Country Races to Second Place Finish at Wellesley Invite

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Freshman Patrick Heavey (Mansfield Mass.) led the Wentworth men's cross country team to a second place finish at the Wellesley College Invitational on Friday afternoon at Nehoiden Golf Course.

Heavy, who placed fifth overall and first among his Leopard teammates, finished the 5K race at 17:12.6 in his collegiate debut.

Junior veterans Wes Brimeyer (Dubuque, Iowa) and Will Allen (West Hartford, Conn.) placed in the top 10 overall, finishing at 17:41.1 and 17:42.6. Both times were improvements for the upperclassmen from last year's opening meet at Wellesley.

"This meet was a great way to start off the season to get back into racing," said head Coach Dan Roark. "We have a lot of young guys who ran smart races. It's a positive sign but we still have a long way to go and a lot of work to put in."

Among the young finishers was freshmen Ryan Smith (Billerica, Mass.), Christian Boyadjiev (Burlington, Mass.) and Brendan Jeanjaquet (Weymouth, Mass.), who clocked in at 18:44.4, 18:59.5, and 19:01.7, respectively. Sophomore transfer Robert Pineault (Andover, Mass.) also placed in the top 20 at 19:49.6.

"Endicott will be a good challenge for us in the first 8K next week. The new guys will get to see some fierce conference competition." concluded Roark.

The Leopards will head to Topsfield next Saturday, September 7th, for the Endicott College Invite at Bradley Palmer State Park.
