Softball Wraps Up Spring Trip

FORT MYERS, Fla. – In its final two games of the Wentworth Institute of Technology softball team's spring trip, the Leopards were defeated by Minnesota-Morris, 17-3, and Mount Saint Mary, 15-0.

Against Minnesota-Morris, the Leopards took an early, 1-0 lead when junior Liz Glavin (Ipswich, Mass.) hit a sacrifice fly, scoring classmate Sam Curran (Quincy, Mass.). The lead would be short-lived, however, as the Cougars bounced back with 13 runs in the bottom of the inning and added two runs in both the second and fourth innings.

Wentworth tallied single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth inning, freshman Marina MacDonald-Soccorso (Avon, Conn.) had an RBI single, which plated senior Haylee Bacik (Lowell, Mass.), while in the fifth inning, Glavin delivered an RBI single which scored freshman Kendall Kelly (New Lebanon, N.Y.).

Glavin finished the game 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI, while Curran and MacDonald-Soccorso each had hits.

In the game against Mount Saint Mary, the Knights scored all of the runs they would need with a three-run first inning before putting the game out of reach by scoring nine times in the third and three times in the fourth. Glavin, who finished the trip batting .462, had Wentworth's lone hit.

Wentworth closes the spring trip with a 0-6 record and hosts Emmanuel on Wednesday, March 19 at 3:30 p.m.
