Gulls Fly Past Softball in CCC Twinbill

BEVERLY, Mass. – Scoring 27 runs over two games, the Endicott College softball team swept a Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader over Wentworth Institute of Technology. The Gulls took the first game by a 15-1 score before completing the sweep with a 12-1 triumph in game two.

With the wins Endicott, winners of four straight, improve to 8-2 overall and open CCC play with a 2-0 record. Wentworth falls to 4-16 (0-6).

The Gulls scored eight times in the first inning, using just two hits while walking eight times – including four times with the bases loaded.

Senior Haylee Bacik (Lowell, Mass.) led off the second inning with a home run to put the Leopards on the board before Endicott used a pair of bases-loaded walks in the home half of the inning to take a 10-1 lead.

Endicott added five runs in the third inning to round out the scoring, using two bases-loaded walks, a fielder's choice, and an error to account for the runs.

Senior Nell O'Connor (Harwich, Mass.) earned the win for the Gulls as she yielded just one run on two hits and struck out five to improve to 2-0. Freshman Rachel Couto (Chelmsford, Mass.) and sophomore Sam DiBella (Danvers, Mass.) drove in three runs apiece.

Freshman Maya Bloom (Hopkinton, N.H.) took the loss for the Leopards. Bacik and freshman Marina MacDonald Soccorso (Avon, Conn.) had Wentworth's hits.

Game two saw the Gulls score eight times over the first three innings to take an 8-0 lead. In the first inning, sophomore Jamie Corda (Higganum, Conn.) had a two-run double and senior Kelley Michael (Ipswich, Mass.) had a two-run in the second.

Bacik got the Black & Gold on the board with one out in the fourth inning as she hit her third home run in as many games and fourth in her last five games.

Endicott added four runs in the bottom of the fourth on three RBI singles and a fielder's choice which scored a run.

Junior Meg Donegan (Atkinson, N.H.) earned the win as she allowed one run on four hits and struck out 10 batters. At the plate, Corda was 2-for-3 with three RBI, senior Ali Noyes (Tewksbury, Mass.) was 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Michael drove in a pair.

Bacik took the loss for the Leopards, pitching the first two innings before junior Sam Curran pitched the last two. Sophomore Karsyn Sawyer (Chatham, N.Y.) had two of the Leopards' four hits.

Both teams are back in action on Thursday as Wentworth hosts Salve Regina and Endicott is at Brandeis.
