Softball Drops Two to Conclude Florida Trip

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology softball team wrapped up its Florida campaign Thursday morning with a pair of losses to Wooster (9-0) and Kenyon (16-1).

In the first game against Wooster, freshman Maddy Chase (Pleasant Prairie, Wis.) pitched a perfect game for the Fighting Scots, striking out three.

Senior Sam Curran (Quincy, Mass.) and junior Heather Pinkston (Concord, Calif.) combined for four innings of work in the circle for the Leopards, who gave up three runs in the first and six in the second before holding Wooster scoreless over the final two innings.

Kenyon (13-3) used three runs (two unearned) to take a 3-0 lead in the first inning and tacked on two runs in the second inning on a two-run home run. The Ladies had the bases loaded and got a bases-clearing single to make it an 8-0 game after three.

The Leopards got on the board in the top of the fourth as senior Liz Glavin (Ipswich, Mass.) blasted her 18th career home run to make it an 8-1 game. However, in the bottom of the inning, Kenyon broke the game open by using an eight-run inning.

Junior Siobhan Baker (South Portland, Maine) made her collegiate debut in the circle and went the distance. Glavin had a pair of hits to pace the offense.

Wentworth (0-4) opens its home schedule on Tuesday when the Leopards host Mass. Maritime in a non-conference doubleheader.
