Softball Hosts Sammy Strong Day

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology softball team hosted its fall game on Saturday, September 17, against Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Gordon. While the two games were a good test of how each team has been progressing through its non-traditional season, the day meant more than just the two games as it was "Sammy Strong" Day.

Samantha DuBois is an inspiring 16-year old softball player from Rindge, N.H., who was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia back in August. Prior to the start of the doubleheader, Sam, her family, and her travel softball team were recognized and the ceremony concluded with Sam throwing out the first pitch to one of her teammates.

Throughout the day, representatives from Be The Match, conducted a mobile bone registry drive. For over 25 years, Be The Match has conducted bone marrow registry drives that connect, educate, and match people with those who are in need of bone marrow transplants.
