Pina Named CCC Softball Player of the Week

BOSTON, Mass. – For the first time since 2011, the Wentworth softball team landed a Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week, as freshman Alexandra Pina (Cumberland, R.I.) led the Leopards to their best start in program history. Pina earns CCC Player of the Week for games played March 3rd – March 8th at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach.

In her first collegiate week, Pina hit .344 with 11 hits, two RBI's, and seven runs scored. Of her 11 hits, four went for extra bases, as she belted a pair of doubles and a pair of triples. She started her freshman campaign going 2-for-4 from the plate against Cedar Crest with two runs scored in her first appearances at the plate for Wentworth, and recorded at least one hit in all but two games played.

Pina was lights out as Wentworth's starting center fielder, and produced a 1.000 fielding percentage with 12 putouts, and two assists, one of which retired the runner crossing home, and another which turned a double play.

Pina's 11 hits currently ranks first among the CCC in the league's opening week.

Wentworth returns to action on Saturday, March 16 for a non-conference twinbill at Emerson College.
