BOSTON, Mass. – After a record-breaking season, the Wentworth Institute of Technology softball team landed three players on the Commonwealth Coast All-Conference Teams, as announced on Wednesday morning by the league office.
All receiving postseason honors for the first time in their respective careers, sophomore Brionna Myers (Seabrook, N.H.) was named to the Second Team, while classmate Kayla DeMedeiros (South Dartmouth, Mass.) and freshman Katie Verreault (Scarborough, Maine) earned a spot on the Third Team.
The postseason accolades are the first for the Wentworth softball program since the 2015 season.
Myers, who represented Wentworth on the Second Team at first base, led the Leopards with a .409 average and recorded 27 hits, seven of which were doubles, 13 runs, and 11 RBI in 66 at-bats. In the closing quarter of the season starting with a 6-5 upset over Roger Williams, Myers was red hot at the plate, and went a combined 17-33 (.515) with six doubles and a triple in the stretch. Myers was also efficient-as-ever at first base, starting in 31 games with 262 total put outs, which ranks first across the CCC. She also recorded a conference-best nine double plays, five which came against league opponents.
Serving on the Third Team as the Utility player, DeMedeiros was a versatile force for the Leopards as both pitcher and designated player. In the circle, she appeared in 22 games, starting in 14 of them, and posted a win-loss record of 6-9 with 48 strikeouts and a 5.12 ERA. At the plate, she swung into 21 hits and four doubles with 12 runs in 90 at-bats. She ranked in the top-20 across the league with 20 RBI, six of which came in conference play.
Verreault made her mark with a standout season in her first year, starting in all but two games for the Black & Gold. Representing Wentworth at second base on the Third Team, Verreault ranks in the top-20 in the league in runs, hits, doubles, and triples. She belted 13 doubles overall, five coming against league opponents, which leads all players in the CCC, while her two triples rank seventh. Verreault posted a .324 average as one of many standout rookies for the Leopards, and recorded 35 hits, 24 runs, and 17 RBI overall. On March 27th, Verreault belted a two-RBI double for an 8-7 walkoff win against Gordon for the first conference win of the season. As Wentworth's starting second baseman, Verreault recorded 40 put outs with a .971 fielding percentage and just three errors.
Wentworth posted a 12-19 record overall and a 4-12 mark in conference, both of which were the program's highest win totals since the 2010 season.
