IN THE CIRCLE

  • Erin Hancock (7.0 innings pitched – 5 strikeouts, 3 hits, 0 runs)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Hancock allowed just one hit through the first three innings, before St. Scholastica plated Kaitlin Pettenger (Flanders, N.J.) on an infield error, who then worked her way to third after a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly from Briana Beverly (Pawcatuck, Conn.). The Saints turned a vital double-play on the next batter, halting Pettenger at home to keep the game scoreless.
  • In the top of the fifth, Wentworth etched a single run on the scoreboard thanks to back-to-back doubles from freshman Julia Bollentin and junior Brionna Myers. The Saints fell victim to Hancock's head and went down in order, before Wentworth tacked on two runs in the sixth with a Bollentin RBI. Hancock threw 56 strikes out of 67 total pitches to power Wentworth to its second win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Pacers built an 8-0 lead after three innings, and nearly ended the contest on run-rule mercy, but Wentworth ignited a spirited comeback in the bottom of the fifth to spoil the early decision. With two outs down, Hancock belted a single to right field before Alyssa Lohr reached first on an infield error, which ultimately scored Hancock on the play with a miscue to third base.
  • Not cracking to the pressure of two outs down, Pettenger and Beverly drove in two more runs, extending the contest to a full seven.
