Women's Basketball Pulls Away From Lesley in Second Half

WENHAM, Mass. – Senior Rachael Camara (Fall River, Mass.) scored a game-high 19 points on 6-for-9 shooting – all from behind the arc – to pace the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team to a 58-33 win over Lesley in the second day of the Gordon College Tournament.

With the win the Leopards improve to 2-1 while the Lynx fall to 0-3 on the season.

The two teams traded baskets in the first 1:35 of the contest before Camara drained her first three of the contest with 7:39 remaining. That basket began a 13-2 run for the Black & Gold to close out the quarter. Lesley's only two points during the run came off free throws.

Lesley scored the first five points of the second frame before a pair of junior Kellie Messer (Hollis, N.H.) layups sandwiched around a free throw from Camara put the Leopards ahead by 14 with 5:47 left. Another shot from behind the arc by Camara upped the lead to 26-9 with just over four minutes left and would begin a 9-5 spurt which gave Wentworth a 35-14 lead at the break.

The Lynx scored the first three points of the second half – all on free throws – before a 17-2 Leopard run broke the game open and gave Wentworth a 52-19 lead late in the third quarter.

In addition to Camara's 19 points, two other players scored in double figures for the Leopards. Messer had 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting to go along with seven rebounds while senior Carly Rogers (Scarborough, Maine) also had 10 points while adding seven assists, five rebounds, and two steals. Wentworth held Lesley to 24 percent shooting from the floor and had a 44-30 rebounding advantage.

Sophomore Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) led Lesley with 14 points. Senior Anthea Rathjens (Sudbury, Mass.) had six points, 10 rebounds, and four steals.

Wentworth is at Smith Tuesday night.
